benees sucks at 1-2-3 pass

Ampao, Ven and Ave reminded me today of how much fun it was to be a kid in the 90s. Beyond any of the books, places, or even toys we came across during that time, it was the CARTOONS---with their regular screening times and unforgettable characters--- that actually seemed to be most strikingly memorable for us.

From what we could remember a while ago, cable tv in our gradeschool years gave us

Arthur, the four-eyed anteater who had two dots for a nose and a rat(burn) for a principal;

Akazukin ChaCha, the witch girl who had two boys as her bestfriends (grade 5 memories!!);

Babar, the cute gray beady-eyed elephant whose relatives came in trousers and pin-striped suits;

Rupert, the white British bear;

Little Lulu, the subtly wise little girl who always did stand-up comedy in a red dress;

Gem (and the Holograms!), the pink-haired teenager who had a perky theme song;

Magic Bag, yung bag na bulol;

Speed Racer, whose mouth movements never seem to correspond to what he's actually saying;

Kimba, the white lion whom I boycotted to watching when I as younger since I always thought him to be a pirated version of the lion king (sorry);

Denver, the last dinosaur;

Julio and Julia, the twins who always look forward to happy beginnings but then something bad always happens to them;

and

Slim Pig, the two-dimensional pig living in a three-dimensional world

Darn those were the days! The incomparably carefree days where sitting in a sando with a chocolait drink in hand, just several meters away from the set after a long schoolday, was already enough for me to be happy and immensely content. Sometimes I just want to run back into the past and re-live these moments even for the shortest while, and encase myself in a world where everyday could end in a perky theme song.
