Although I promised myself I would already start sleeping early during summer, these past few nights have been giving me enough reason not to do so... at least while we're here anyway. Okay rin kasi pala yung late-night TV nila dito sa Qatar. I'm not sure if we have these shows at home pero ngayon ko lang nakita yung mga late-night shows tulad ng Insider or Primetime or Maury, all of which have been featuring a lot of interesting stories---everything TRUE--- during these past few days.
Here's a rundown of what we've watched so far:
1) When everything becomes TOO perfect
One of the first features I've been able to watch with my brother past midnight was the investigation on a self-proclaimed perfectionist American boy, who already had everything: he was a straight-A student, the "perfect" son, a bemedalled Eagle scout, and one of the star football players... and then he committed the perfect crime of murder. The most intriguing thing about the whole situation was that they found him guilty of killing a perfect stranger for NO reason at all. It turned out that he merely wanted to find out if he could get away with it or not. It didn't have any bearing on his conscience whatsoever, and he didn't have even a trace of regret in his face. It was as though he was testing himself if he could make murder one of his many accomplishments... pinagmayabang pa niya sa mga kaibigan niya na nakapatay siya... in full detail. And he wasn't even mentally ill. Katakot no?
2) Identical twin sisters... turning out UNUSUALLY differently
There were these identical twin sisters who grew up to be very different adults. While the first one became a mother, guess how the other one turned out? Tadah... SHE became a full-fledged MAN. She changed her name from Juanita to Juan, and far more than that... she had her chest and ovaries surgically removed and now injects a prescribed medication of testosterone everyday to turn herself increasingly manlier. She now has a real beard and mustache, and a man's body... and is planning to take a final operation soon, one that will give her an artificial and official TRALALA. Male genitals. Nagulat kami dito... I mean can you even imagine having your twin sister turning into your twin brother? It was so weird... it was just fortunate that her (or his?) twin sister was respecting that decision and supporting her (or him...) all the way. This was really queer.
3) The Reality of Cheating
One girl, Paige, whose direct relatives own Walmart (and a lot of money) just graduated from college recently... but further investigation proved that she wasn't very deserving of this. The girl's roommate confessed to having taken the job (as in job) of writing her papers for her... and this doesn't merely pertain to little essays or homework. It turned out that for the past four years, she was being paid THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS by Paige to make dozens and dozens and DOZENS... nearly ALL of her college paperwork. It was as though the girl doing so was the one studying in Paige's school herself. The stupid thing about this was, the girl only revealed this now, and revealed her disdain for something she didn't refuse to do in the first place. Nabigla rin ako sa report na to.. there was even a website that supposedly offered to make students' homework for a fair price. When the owner of the website was interviewed, she wasn't even taking any responsibility for helping students cheat. The students that were interviewed here didn't even seem to care much... they acted like cheating was the most normal thing to do.
4) This and a whole lot more...
They had several other features, some of which I haven't even watched yet... like
---Clay Aiken's Video Diary of his visit to the Tsunami victims in Asia
---Two brothers being pushed TOO MUCH to perfection had enough... and actually killed their parents
---controversies on the little boy muscleman (the physical prodigy called young Hercules)
---families switch lives in a reality show and start losing it
---there's this girl who died in a well in 1970 and investigators are STILL trying to figure out whether she fell there by accident... or if someone killed her
Basta ang dami... a lot of them are obviously morbid but they're all interesting all the same. Aside from this, this is the only time I get to watch Saturday Night Live, Will&Grace, Oprah, JKX, and even CNN for updates in the Vatican everyday so masaya. Heheheh. :P I don't even watch Cartoon Network anymore at home because I'm not really fond of the new shows they've been airing but late-night cartoon network here has been fun. They've been showing the better episodes of cow&chicken and sheep and it's been relaxing watching light cartoons before getting to sleep. I guess the only channels I'm missing here so far are the lifestyle network and Disney.
Now I sound like a couch potato. Weirdly enough, I've never really been a TV addict (maybe when I was younger... but high school got me out of that in an instant). I read just as much as I watch, and in the same way I read only when I feel like it, I watch only when I feel like it. So it's weird having my eyes glued to the TV every night now. Weeeee haha :) Eh ano pa bang gagawin ko?
Anyway, from how it looks, watching's worth the time anyway. The shows are worth the eyestrain. =)
